With the help of @PhilWilkinsonMusic backing tracks, I was inspired to see if I could hang with this tune in 7/4.
The first time I ever played in 7 was when I decided to do it on one of the tunes I'd picked for my first trio record, Stand!, back in 2000. The tune was "Happy Together," a 1967 hit song by a group called The Turtles. I thought the melody fit perfectly in 7/4 and that was the impetus for the decision. The repercussion was that I had to figure out how to improvise fluidly in that time signature, which was and still is a fun challenge.
