Blaze (2024) is a one movement tour de force snare drum solo written for my student Remy Thomas. The ideas for Blaze grew out of several improvisations that I eventually developed into a formal composition. My love for the drum set and hand percussion is showcased in the style and sound world of the piece as well as my affinity for virtuosity. While much of the work is on the page there is a cadenza just before the recap that gives the perform the freedom to add their stamp to the solo.
