Tampa, Florida! SCV Confederate Flag! I75 & I4 Interchange (Aug 27, 2022)

Описание: Salute! The beautiful Mega Confederate Flag located at Confederate Memorial Park in Tampa, Florida! This site is situated on a small, privately owned plot of land near the busy interchange of Interstate 4 (I-4) and Interstate 75 (I-75), close to the boundary between Tampa and Brandon in Hillsborough County. The flag was one of the largest Confederate flags in the world at the time of its installation (claimed as the second-largest). The park itself is a memorial site honoring Confederate veterans, funded and maintained by the SCV via private donors.

The Park was dedicated on April 25, 2009, as part of the Sons of Confederate Veterans' (SCV) "Flags Across Florida" initiative. This project aimed to erect large Confederate flags across the state in response to the removal of Confederate memorials & symbols from public spaces. The Tampa chapter of the SCV, led by figures like Marion Lambert (who purchased the land in 2004), spearheaded the effort.

The Park is a tribute to Southern heritage and Confederate soldiers. Lambert, a descendant of Confederate veterans, viewed it as a tribute to Florida history and his ancestors. Smaller flags (like the state Confederate flag and the original Stars and Bars) also fly at the site.

The parking lot is open to the public but the memorials, plaques, and flagpoles are normally locked behind a fence. Come pay your respects and support! These flags are very expensive and cost many $thousands per year to maintain.
