#20 SKOOLIE BUS CONVERSION | ROOF PAINT (First Coat)

This is the 20th video of our 2001 Thomas School Bus Tiny House Conversion.

Today we did a quick wipe of the roof to remove any dust and dirt that landed on it overnight (with just a rag and clean water) then we used painters tape to put masking plastic around the entire bus.

We then began our first coat of roof paint. Yippee! We used about 85-90% of a 1 Gallon Henry 4.75 Gallon White Extreme Enviro-White Elastomeric Roof Coating 687 Paint ➜ http://amzn.to/2oGfIRU

V used a paint roller with extended wooden handle on the roof. Also a small paint brush to go over the parallel roof beams really well. She found that dipping the roller and paint brush straight into the paint bucket worked great.

Ian used a small paint brush for the gutters and a small roller for the sides.

We decided to go with a more textured look which you would normally see on walls and roofs in homes. We were happy with how it turned out.

The paint went on super thick and it looked great when we finished.

HOWEVER..... We lost track of time and didn't realise we had less than the prescribed 2 hours of sunlight for the paint to cure.

VERY IMPORTANT ➜ This paint DEFINITELY needs 2 hours of direct sunlight, not 2 hours of light.

Therefore the portion of the back end of the bus did not fully cure, and then it rained during the night! So unfortunately some of the paint was removed in places where it did not have enough sunlight.

We are excited for the next sunny day so that we can put the second layer of paint on the roof. After that we should be water tight and rocking and rolling!

Soon enough, we'll have a tiny house.
