Senior Research Fellow at the Center for African Diplomacy and Leadership, University of Johannesburg, Dr Oscar Van Heerden, says US President Donald Trump knows that he can't bar South Africa from attending the G20 summit that will be held in the country in 2026.
Van Heerden says insisting on doing this could see BRICS members pulling out of the summit and other groups that attended the South African summit pulling out, which will humiliate Trump.
