In a dramatic finish on a foggy night, Buford edged Langston Hughes 21-20 after the Panthers missed a potential game-winning field goal as time expired. The win made Buford’s Bryant Appling the first coach in Georgia history to win state titles in each of his first three seasons. Stanford commit Ashton Daniels delivered the game-winner—a 34-yard touchdown pass to Tobi Olawole with 2:55 left. Buford boasted 21 scholarship players, including Alabama commits Isaiah Bond and Jake Pope. Georgia Tech commit Antonio Martin kept Langston Hughes in the fight with 166 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
