Testing the Multichannel Signed Distance Field font glyph rendering for Neos VR. For testing the glyphs are rendered into individual bitmaps outside of Neos (but using Neos' codebase) and then imported as images.
The generation process from TrueType font file (.ttf) is pretty fast as you can see later in the video when generating from Calibri.ttf, enough to allow for dynamic generation of missing symbols (in addition to having pregenerated atlases for common ranges). For testing they are also generated at significantly higher resolution than they normally would be used (128 px for EM square).
The main overhead when importing them into Neos is from Neos performing a BC1 compression on each texture (which also introduces artifacts). This is just due to quick import and won't be used for actual font rendering.
