Ababhemu Quartet is the long-awaited new collaboration between renowned Swedish jazz saxophonist Karl-Martin Almqvist and the award-winning South African jazz pianist Nduduzo Makhathini.
They met in 2014 and recorded the album "Listening to the Ground" in Johannesburg, South Africa. Karl-Martin and Nduduzo got back together in the summer of 2022 to record a new album, "The Travelers."
This time, the studio work took place in Malmö, Sweden, with South African drum player Ayanda Sikade and Norwegian bass player Magne Thormodsæter under the name "Karl-Martin Almqvist Ababhemu Quartet."
"The Making of the Travelers" is a short documentary about how Ababhemu Quartet's new album was born in Sunnanå Studios, Malmö, Sweden, and about the power of interaction between people from different parts of the world.
