Every decision I made—what I said, what I did, even who I was—was influenced by their expectations and approval. Over time, I lost sight of my own dreams, my own instincts, and the person I was meant to be. I was never trusted to make my own choices, and because of that, I stopped trusting myself.

Walking away was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It meant letting go of everything I had always known and someone I once considered home. I wanted so badly to hold onto the relationship and make things right, but I finally realized that I couldn’t keep living for someone else’s expectations. Choosing myself wasn’t selfish—it was necessary.

Since leaving, I’ve been surrounded by people who have shown me what true, unconditional love looks like. They’ve helped me find my strength, my voice, and most importantly—myself.

I’m sharing this because I know I’m not the only one who has felt trapped in something that no longer serves them.
