Timothy Snyder holds the inaugural Temerty Chair in Modern European History at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. He is also a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna and the head of the academic advisory council of Ukrainian History Global Initiative.

Maksym Butkevych is a human rights activist, journalist, co-founder of the ZMINA Human Rights Center, Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier, and former Russian prisoner of war.

This conversation is about war as a historical and moral challenge, about responsibility, freedom, and the price of human dignity. It is about how to talk about evil in the language of history and human rights — and why this conversation is critically important right now.

The event is organized by Varosh and the Institute for Central European Strategy in partnership with the Ukrainian History Global Initiative, with the support of the Askold and Dir Foundation, administered by ISAR “Yednannia,” and funded by Norway and Sweden.

Він також є постійним членом Інституту гуманітарних наук у Відні та головою наукової консультативної ради Ukrainian History Global Initiative.

Максим Буткевич — правозахисник, журналіст, співзасновник Центру прав людини ZMINA, військовослужбовець ЗСУ, колишній бранeць російського полону.

Ця розмова — про війну як історичний і моральний виклик, про відповідальність, свободу та ціну людської гідності. Про те, як говорити про зло мовою історії та прав людини — і чому ця розмова критично важлива саме зараз.
