Roger Clemens returns in the subway series, Clemens, who beat the Pirates, 9-3, in his 2007 debut Saturday, says his right groin problem is under control. Since Saturday, he has worked two bullpen sessions and reported no problem Clemens who earlier made some comeback/rehab stints with Class A Tampa a month earlier. Mets starter Oliver Perez, who pitched a solid outing in the last series Subway Series against. the Yankees on the May 18th, and earning his 5th win of the season. Perez has an even better outing in this 1st game of the 3 game series in the Bronx. Perez goes 7.1 innings giving up 0 runs on just 5 Yankee hits while striking out 6 allowing 3 BBs.
Hitting star of game 1 was clearly Mets SS Jose Reyes going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs including just his 3rd HR of 2007 off Cemens and upper deck shot to RF. Reyes also steals 2 bases on the day including a run scored. Billy Wagner comes in the 9th inning, earning his 15 save of the season. Perez with the win (7-5) while comeback start for Clemens suffers the loss (1-1).
