In this detailed and beginner-friendly tutorial, I’ll walk you through how to knit your first bottom-up sweater in a classic style with a round neckline. This sweater was originally made for my 6-year-old daughter and fits kids aged 4–6, but I also explain how you can easily adjust the stitch counts for older kids or adults.
I cover the entire process step by step—starting from the bottom, shaping the armholes, working the neckline and shoulders for both the front and back, sewing the sides using mattress stitch, knitting and attaching the sleeves, and finally finishing the collar using Kitchener stitch.
Materials used:
Yarn: Wool yarn/ 100 grams
Amount: 3 skeins (No. 4 weight)
Needles: 4 mm straight needles
Circular needle for collar: 3.5 mm, 16-inch
Extras: crochet hook, tapestry needle, stitch markers, measuring tape, scissors
