Here's a quick (and stupid) test of JVC SP-EXA3 "Wood Cone" speakers, paired with their matching little CA-EXA3 receiver. The special feature of them is the cone which is made of real birch wood. It does look fantastic, even tho I think it's not really necessary.
-The reason JVC made wood cone speakers is pretty funny: "To recreate the sound of instruments played in a concert hall, speakers should be designed as though they were actual musical instruments. In particular, the speaker diaphragms ought to be made of wood — the same material used for making violins, cellos, and other instruments".
-In any case, these do really sound amazing. They sound like they're much much bigger with a lot of dynamics, stereo separation and impressive bass response (no subwoofers were used in the video, bass were straight form these little cubes!).
-Cabinets are also made from real wood with pretty good quality banana plug connectors on the back and a pretty small bass reflex port.
-Drivers are just 3" fullranges and they're so well built! Rubber surrounds, wood cones and cast frames. They also have a little piece of wood glued on the bottom of the magnet, which is pretty odd.
Part number is JVC LE10009-012A.
Keep in mind: no sub connected! My new favorite little speakers.
--About first track, it's made by a friend of mine (WhiXard) and you can listen it here: / virtual-demo
