"We believe that these current turbulences in public communication (between NATO and the US) are going to go away, we will do our utmost to strengthen this partnership between our sides. I am especially glad that such a strong representation of the US came here (to Dubrovnik summit), to show their commitment to central Europe and Europe in general. I think we have to strengthen our strategic autonomy. I agree with that. We are all strengthening our military capabilities, but at the same time we have keep our partner and friendly relationship with United States."

STORYLINE:
Croatia's prime minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Tuesday that despite what he called "turbulences" in public relations between the US and NATO, both sides remain committed to each other.

Plenkovic spoke at a press conference with the presidents of Slovakia and Poland, both countries which share a border with Ukraine.

"We believe that these current turbulences in public communication (between NATO and the US) are going to go away, we will do our utmost to strengthen this partnership between our sides," Plenkovic said.

U.S. President Donald Trump has this month been fuming about NATO, musing about leaving the alliance, ratcheting up his criticism of European leaders and exposing a wider rift in the trans-Atlantic alliance over the Iran war.
