A combine's complex structure creates numerous areas where grain can become trapped. That makes combine clean-out one of the most important steps in equipment sanitation for identity-preserved grains. It is common for a couple of bushels of grain to remain in the combine after the unloading auger has been operated while "empty." Even after flushing with the desired grain, some seeds remain to mix with subsequent grain harvests. Such impurity is troublesome for some markets and could cause loads to be rejected.
This video illustrates a systematic step-by-step clean-out of the head, feederhouse, grain tank, threshing, separating, and cleaning areas using a cylinder-type combine for illustration.
