We all know how China became an economic powerhouse on the basis of manufacturing industry and now India is also eyeing the same. Amid global fears of inflation - India is transforming itself slowly and steadily into a Global manufacturing hub: From manufacturing Semiconductor chips to iPhones and whatnot...
China, whose dominance in the manufacturing industry has been jeopardized by rolling lockdowns and political tensions with the US. It has also persuaded global brands to consider assembly in India to reduce their reliance on China at a time of increasing geopolitical risks. And India is grasping these opportunities to emerge as a manufacturing hub.
In February this year, Vedanta, one of India's leading multinational groups, and Foxconn, world's largest electronics manufacturing company, formed a joint venture company with the aim to manufacture semiconductors in India. Fast forward to this week, Vedanta and Taiwan's Foxconn signed a pact on Tuesday to set up a semiconductor and display fabrication unit in Gujarat with an investment of $20 billion (1.54lakh crore).
Vedanta will hold 60% of the equity in the venture, with Foxconn owning the remaining 40%. Foxconn is the technical partner in the venture and the oil-to-metals conglomerate Vedanta is financing the project as it looks to diversify into chip manufacturing. The investment is expected to create 100,000 job opportunities.
Apple has been working with suppliers to ramp up manufacturing in India and the first iPhone 14 from the country are likely to be finished in late October or November, following the initial September release.
Apple's Taiwan-based supplier Foxconn will assemble the iPhone 14 at its plant outside the southern Indian city of Chennai.

After Apple, rival tech giant Google is planning to shift the assembly of one of its flagship phone brands - Google Pixel to India.The report states that Google has solicited bids from manufacturers to assemble between 500,000 and 1 million units of the Pixel smartphones that accounts for 10-20% of Pixel phones annual production.
