The reality of a better connected Auckland with more trains in and out of the city is getting closer.
Here at CRL we use Building Information Modelling (BIM) or 3D modelling of the project.
The Link Alliance BIM Team’s regular flythroughs have served as a simulation for train drivers, developed jointly with the construction site team, to keep them informed about changes occurring along their driving route, which runs in parallel with the construction site.
On the left is a simulation of the route from the train driver’s point of view – and on the right is the real thing. Thanks to Auckland One Rail fixed camera footage, we see the test train driver’s actual POV, travelling at line speed along the upmain through the tunnel.
The signals are a critical reference point for train drivers, essential for maintaining safety, operational efficiency, and coordination.
By the way, Link Alliance supplies the digital simulation to LANDOR, who create and update AOR's 2 x driver simulators at Wiri, so it's very much interconnected!
