Описание: Hundreds of people have taken part in “Kill the Bill” protests across the UK against the Police and Crime Bill, despite warnings issued by police

Protesters carrying placards and banners chanted ‘kill the bill’ in a number of cities including London, Manchester and Leeds and Southampton

It comes after protests against the law in Bristol turned violent on March 21. The bill gives the police more powers to deal with non-violent protests

Former Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn said it would prevent protests without police approval. He urged marchers to "stand up for the right to protest"

Several women addressed the crowd and shared personal experiences of abuse and being drugged. Protesters carried anti-sexism placards and chanted, "Women scared everywhere, police and Government do not care"

Ministers and police have defended the proposals, saying they were needed to tackle demonstrations such the ones by Extinction Rebellion in 2019, where mass occupations of roads and bridges in London and elsewhere stretched police resources to the limit.

Most of the crowd of several hundred people in London dispersed peacefully after the rally, but police said they arrested 26 people after a "small minority" refused to leave.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson condemned the violence at a third night of protests in Bristol as “disgraceful"

According to the new bill, anyone refusing to follow police directions about a protest could be fined up to £2,500.
