Wir sind inzwischen deutschlandweit die einzigen Wissenschaftler*innen, die das Medium Film gezielt für Forschung und Präsentation einsetzen. Die in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten entstandenen etwa 260 Filmproduktionen sind unersetzbare Dokumente verloren gegangener Wissensbestände aus Landwirtschaft, Handwerk, Industriearbeit und dem vielfältigen regionalen Brauchleben.

Heute nutzen wir das Medium Film vor allem, um aktuelle Veränderungsprozesse zu dokumentieren und Menschen im Rheinland in ihren Lebenszusammenhängen zu begleiten. Dabei entstehen Filme zu interkulturellen Phänomenen und Problemen, zum Wandel der Arbeitswelten, zu neuen Formen sozialen Zusammenlebens und dem Umgang mit Ritualen, Bräuchen und Traditionen.
