Jonathan Davies from Spring Consultancy is joined by Sarah Lewis from the Passivhaus Trust and our very own Tim Martel to support professionals wanting to complete the Welsh Govt ‘Future Homes’ Consultation.

Welsh Government is currently consulting on revisions to Approved Document L of the Building Regulations. Option 1 – currently preferred – looks like England’s Future Homes Standard. Option 2 proposes the Notional Building applies an air permeability of 1.5 m³/hr.m² and is ventilated by MVHR.

Jonathan Davies is a Passivhaus Designer and AECB CarbonLite Certifier & Building Modeller who has structured his career around a passion for utilising low carbon materials combined with MMC to rapidly deliver low energy buildings. After completing his undergraduate degree in Sydney, Jonathan relocated to Umeå, Sweden for a postgraduate embedded within the Laboratory for Sustainable Architectural Practice. After graduating he returned to the UK to work in private practice and built a portfolio including the UK’s first off-grid Certified Passivhaus dwelling utilising straw SIPs. His focus is on refining conventional techniques to deliver high performance buildings with minimal embodied energy and is passionate about the role of energy modelling tools in data-driven optimisation of architectural design. Alongside practice, Jonathan has been a Visiting Tutor at the Arts University Bournemouth delivering specialist content on low energy and regenerative design. Jonathan is also a founding member of Strawbale Building United Kingdom (SBUK).

Sarah Lewis is a passionate advocate for sustainable design. As, Co-Director of the UK Passivhaus Trust, she promotes practices that reduce the environmental impact of the UK built environment. She is a Passivhaus Trainer at Coaction, authored PHPP Illustrated, and was named Sustainability & Environmental Woman of the Year at the European Women in Construction and Engineering Awards.

Tim Martel is the Programme Manager for the AECB Standards and Certification Scheme, an Expert Advisor for the AECB Retrofit course and also supports the PHribbon software. Originally an Architectural Technologist, Tim has also been a Passivhaus Designer since 2012.
