Welcome to Dhaka, Bangladesh, the heart of the global garment industry. Here, inside sweatshops and factories, children as young as 10 are thrust into work, stitching clothes for long hours, often sleeping in the very factories they work in—all for a wage that barely keeps them alive.
Just outside the factories lies the slums of Dhaka, where thousands live in horrendous conditions; no proper sanitation, clean water, or even basic healthcare. This is the side of fast fashion that never makes it to the glossy storefronts of the West.
Yet, even among the dire conditions, the true spirit of these people prevails. The resilience, the hospitality, the sheer will to survive—it’s something I couldn’t ignore. Today, I step inside this world, speaking to those who live and work in the shadows of an industry built on exploitation.
