An emu that was part of a Groundhog Day-style event in an eastern Ontario town ended up escaping and running through the streets, delighting and surprising residents as crowds marked the annual winter-forecast occasion. In a playful nod to the tradition where animals “see their shadows” to predict six more weeks of winter, the unusual emu sighting became the main story of the day.
