In this video, I’m sharing my first proper gig review of the Fractal AM4 Amp Modeler. I took this out for a live performance to see if it could handle the variety of a solo gig, and it’s safe to say it delivered.
I’m walking you through how I’ve set it up on a small, custom pedalboard using the Xsonic Airstep as a MIDI controller. This allows me to keep the AM4 switches in "Effects Mode" for things like boost and delay, while using the Airstep to switch between my four main presets.
What’s inside:
The Rig: AM4 direct to PA, paired with the Airstep and a volume pedal for managing output levels while singing.
The Presets: I breakdown my 4 core sounds—Clean Strat, Crunchy, Jangly Chorus, and a high-gain Lead patch.
The Amp: Why the AC20 is my go-to choice for a versatile pedal platform that sits perfectly in a live mix.
Review: My thoughts on the 4-block limit, the gapless switching, and how it compares to the Kemper Player.
Minor Niggles: A quick look at the screen management and what I’d like to see in future firmware updates.

I’ve uploaded all the presets used in this video to my Google Drive for you to download and try yourself.
