Greg Giokas has just returned from Bangalore, India where he was the Canadian Consul General.

Greg has over 30 years’ experience in diplomacy, trade and policy development with emphasis on agriculture policies in Canada and abroad. He studied in Lausanne, Berlin, Quebec City and Ottawa. Greg joined Agriculture Canada in 1990 and led the promotion of Canadian food exports abroad. From 1999-2003 as Counsellor for Food, Resources and Consumer products at the Canadian Embassy, Tokyo, he led the team for market access and trade promotion. As Director of Trade Policy at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada he oversaw market access and WTO issues for Asia and the EU until he joined Foreign Affairs in 2007, as Director of Trade Commissioner Support, where he led the development of Canada’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy. Subsequently Director for South Asia, Director General for South/South-East Asia, he then served as Canada’s High Commissioner to Islamabad, Pakistan 2012-14. He conceived and led the development of a policy for Food Security and Regional Stability in South Asia, highlighting the critical role of trade for food security and consulted policy frameworks for successful implementation of technological advances in the agriculture sector, the topic of his presentation.
