By faith, Abel offered a better sacrifice. God accepted Abel's sacrifice but rejected Cain's sacrifice. Through faith, even though he is dead, Abel still speaks to us today.
Genesis chapter four gives us much more insight into this story and record of God's commendation than at first glance appears to our attention. There was a time for the regular sacrifice - at the end of time; ... and there was a designated place - they both brought their sacrifice to the Lord...; and there was a standard - a blood substitute was required.
Both brothers believed in the Lord, but only one believed that the Lord. Believed in: both acknowledged that they needed to bring a sacrifice to the Lord at a certain time and at a certain place. Believed that: but only Abel believed that the Lord's requirements must be met concerning what was to be brought before the Lord.
