The Rose and Crown is a favourite of many in Oxford from both Town and Gown and for visitors too. It’s located in a pleasant back street called North Parade Avenue in the city’s green and gracious North Oxford suburb and is just one mile from the centre of Oxford. It has its origins back in the 1860s and it’s a small pub with a big behind.
This video provides an intimate insight into this great boozer with interviews with the Hall family who have run this popular place for over forty years plus snippets of music played at it and written for it. Yes on Sunday nights live jazz is played here. Talented musicians strut their stuff on the slim stage and it’s often difficult to squeeze everyone in.
It is renowned for its range of cask ales and also boasts a good selection of craft beers, wines and spirits. But something that makes this public house very special is the sheer range of customers who use it, from plumbers to professors and from teachers to tour guides. And they all mix: the landlord makes sure of that.
It is a unique pub. A North Oxford oasis for drinkers, diners and those looking for a chat.
