The Government has said the over €14 billion tax windfall awarded against tech giant Apple following a protracted legal battle can not be used for day-to-day spending and neither would it impact on Budget planning. Today's landmark ruling by the European Court of Justice overturned an appeal brought by Apple and the State against a decision in 2016 at the European Commission which found Ireland gave unfair tax benefits to the US multinational thus breaching EU state aid rules.
