A new piece recorded for an upcoming piano album release with music by Edvard Grieg. Recorded with Noire piano VST, performed by my wife Sally. A lot of processing was needed to get the sound right. My ambition was to get a realistic genuine piano performance that would be as good as indistinguishable from a traditional piano recording.
This is an experiment different possibilities to record classical piano. Everything is recorded to a metronome, and in some places I've even quantized the notes. Using tempo changes and humanization to create the illusion of a spontaneously phrased musical performance. This gives me more control, and the end result can get really clean, but I also think that there is nothing like a real musical performance and it's both time consuming and hard to get it as good (If even possible?).
