I sit and I watch with my eyes closed tight,
As the world of my dreams burns out of my sight.

I muted the sound, killed the fire inside,
Just a black-and-white blur, nowhere to hide.
My life is a frame in a rotating tide,
No bullets, no pages, just nowhere to ride.

I’ve hidden my weapon, I’ve folded my hand,
To drop out of games that I can't understand.
I’m here in a place where no stars can expand,
Safe in a shadow, in no-man's land.

While the viewer is sitting, the movie goes on,
On the silver screen, all the fates are undone.
The red wine is pouring, the bullets are drawn,
The heroes are dying before the new dawn!

Somebody else takes the pain and the blow.
But here in my chair, all my feelings are gone,
Comfort and silence, and wild whiskey's glow.

But sometimes I see my own face in the frame,
My hunger, my terror, my internal flame.
I feel how the fresh wind is calling my name,
To lead me back out to the life that I claim.

I turn off the lights just to see them much better,
Their faces, their battles, the blood on the letter!
They’re burning so bright, breaking every cold fetter,
While I’m in the shadows... a stagnant forgetter!

And hid from the waters that washed out the day.
