This rendering of Jai Bhagwati Devi by Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra is a live recording from Swar Utsav 2000, a showcase for India’s finest classical musicians. These musical brothers are part of a 300-year-old lineage of khayal singing of the Banaras gharana. Starting from humble beginnings they went on to conquer the world of music with their talent. They were both accountants in a small shop when they gave a performance in the presence of Satguru Jagjit Singh. The Satguru, realizing their talent, offered to pay double their living wages in exchange for them to put in more time to practice their vocals. The rest, as they say, is history.
