Shipping Costs and Elasticity of Supply and Demand for Ships
While shipping is not usually a huge component of the costs of goods produced off-shore, there is the possibility of shipping disruptions that disturb the basics of supply and demand for goods. Demand is constant but unexpected shipping disruptions create supply delays, which means prices get hit. This creates massive shipping price spikes. There is an elasticity of shipping, because it does take a year or two to build a huge container ship.
