🌿 Ingredients for Kofta (Lauki Balls)
Lauki (Bottle Gourd / Kaddu): 750 g (grated)
Onion: 3 medium, finely chopped
Green Chili: 1, finely chopped
Salt: 1 tbsp or to taste
Red Chili Powder: 1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder: ¼ tsp (about 1/5 tbsp)
Coriander Powder: 1 tbsp
Garam Masala: 1 tbsp
Besan (Gram Flour): 1 cup
🍛 Ingredients for Gravy
Onion: 2 medium, finely chopped
Ginger-Garlic Paste: 3 tbsp
Tomato: 2 medium, pureed or finely chopped
Salt: 1 tbsp or to taste
Red Chili Powder: ½ tbsp
Turmeric Powder: ½ tbsp
Coriander Powder: ½ tbsp
Black Pepper Powder: ½ tbsp
👩🍳 Method
Grate the lauki, squeeze out water, and mix with chopped onions, green chili, salt, red chili, turmeric, coriander powder, garam masala, and besan to make a thick mixture. Shape small balls and fry them in hot oil until golden brown.
For the gravy, heat oil, fry chopped onions till golden, add ginger-garlic paste and cook. Add tomatoes and all dry spices, cook until oil separates, then add water and simmer for a few minutes. Finally, add the fried koftas, cook for 2–3 minutes on low flame, and garnish with coriander. Serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.
