Raw Materials & By-Products
High-quality food begins with high-quality ingredients. We identify and improve the origin, nutritional value and functional properties of raw materials and ingredients. We use by-products to create new products and stabilise valuable compounds after extraction and analysis. In doing so, we actively contribute to the sustainability of the food chain, proving the circular economy’s viability as an effective and sustainable business model.

Optimal Processing & Fermentation
We focus our research on methods of gently preserving and effectively processing raw materials and ingredients. We are interested in processes that activate food’s organoleptic and health-promoting properties. We also explore the relationship between nutrition, the gut microbiome and health. At NOI, our particular focus is on fermentation, an age-old preservation method that we believe is the future of the food industry – improving taste, consistency and nutritional value.

Omics & Precision Health
Molecular biology is our strong suit. We take a holistic approach to health and conduct biomedical research to develop precision health solutions. Our partnerships allow us to convert biomedical discoveries into new therapies and technologies for the public benefit. By integrating biomedical research with food innovation, we drive the development of novel solutions. Following the principle of moving the focus ‘from disease care to health care’, we use intervention studies, bioinformatic techniques and cell modelling to pave the way for ground-breaking health solutions.
