The clockwork mechanism of the Hornby PLM autorail was completely worn out, causing the train to make funny jumps most of the times. I replaced the mechanism with an old electric Hornby motor that needed some work. It was missing the contact shoe, so I made one from a bolt, washer and an old spring, resting on a piece of plywood. It actually works very well as you can see in the video.
The damage on the tinplate body was repaired; the dents are fixed as well as they could be. It looks better than it did before, anyway.
