Today in California History: On September 10th, 1976, acclaimed and controversial writer Dalton Trumbo passed away in Los Angeles.
Trumbo rose to fame as a screenwriter in the 1930s and 40s, but his career was derailed when he became one of the Hollywood Ten during the Red Scare.
Blacklisted, he continued writing under pseudonyms, even winning Academy Awards for Roman Holiday and The Brave One in secret.
Later restored to prominence, Trumbo’s story became a symbol of resistance against censorship and political persecution in Hollywood.
