It is critically important that we understand the different types of literature in the Bible. When we read the Bible without regard to the type of literature we are reading (narrative, poetry, etc) we miss some of the meaning and misread portions of the Bible. One example of this is looking at the Bible like a list of rules. The Bible has rules and commands but it is not typically a straight list of rules or commands.
