The Ministry clarified camping and boating regulations on Crown land and Ontario waterways. The current rules under O. Reg. 161/17 of the Public Lands Act remain unchanged: Camping on Crown land, including in watercraft equipped for overnight accommodation, is allowed for 21 days before moving at least 100 metres.

In 2023, the Ministry of Natural Resources made changes to the regulation governing camping on Crown land, including many Ontario waterways, to clarify floating accommodations are not permitted on Ontario’s Crown lands. The restrictions mentioned in the video were part of a proposed change that was not implemented after consultation with stakeholders. The intent was to address floating homes, not restrict boaters.

The Ministry appreciates Ontario’s boating community and remain committed to supporting safe and responsible use of our waterways.
