their story is truly so tragic, and heartbreaking. We never see Celebrian in the films, but when I researched and discovered Arwen's grandmother was Galadriel, it had me wonder who her mother was. That's when i learned a bit about Celebrian's story. It's been a bit, and this is obviously just a play on their tale, but I do know Celebrian was tortured by Orcs, or something of that nature - and she was so distraught, so in turmoil, that she sailed to the West early to wait for her beloved there. She couldn't bear to be in middle earth any longer; the pain was too great.

essentially, plot wise - we just see elrond meeting celebrian for the first time and falling in love, and then also how she was tortured, and ends up sailing to the west. The bit with arwen is essentially her discovering the truth about her mother leaving. lots of angst per usual.
