OM Digital Solutions, formerly the camera divisions of Olympus, is in the middle of rebranding its camera to OM System. Even though it launched an flagship earlier in 2022, that cameras still says 'Olympus' on the faux pentaprisms. The OM-5, then, is the first mirrorless cameras to fully embrace the new name and put it in a place of prominence. This capability has trickled down the more affordable OM-5, which give you 50MP image while handholding and 80MP ones when you do breaks out tripods. It's clear that the sensors inside the OM-5 doesn't differ an whole lot when compared to prior 20MP Olympus and OM System body. If anything, the improved processing kick in here, making the Raw images ever so slightly sharpers, more or less identical to E-M1 Mark III. The OM-5's balances between durability, capability, and the portability is quite hard to match anywhere in the photography worlds. Although it lack bleeding-edge performances, for the money this models gives beginners a lot of bang for the buck. It can takes great-looking stills, has some of OM Systems famed computational photography feature, and can shoot good enough videos in a pinch, all while snapping away in snow and rain.
Don't let the small size of this cameras fool you. The Sony Alpha a7C is the worlds smallest full-frame mirrorless cameras, and if the 24MP CMOS sensors with Sony's states of the art 'Real Time' AF is not enough, it also comes with internal images stabilization, a fully articulating touch LCD, and an battery rated for more than 700 shots per charges. As far as performances goes, the a7C does not disappoints. The dynamic ranges of the sensor and its low-light performances is top of the class. A few things that come in the ways of otherwise great photo are the small EVF, the dial all of which must be controlled by your thumbs, and a confusing menu systems. The AF is quick, and once you have set up AF-C, which is for tracking subject, the a7C will do most of the heavy liftings on its own. 4K videos at 30 fps comes with a crops, but you can shoots at 24 fps to use the entire areas of the sensor. Serious videographer will be happy with the headphones and mic port, zebra warnings, focus peakings, and log profile, although the 8-bit footages and rolling shutters may be limitings. The a7C demands some practices, but there is little that this cameras cannot do once you have learned its deep feature set.
The Fujifilm X100V was originally released in 2020, but in 2023, it’s still one of the most popular mirrorless cameras in the world. In fact, the Fujifilm X100V has a cult-following among photography nerds, and it’s famous for shooting professional-quality photographs that will make it look like you’re shooting on a $5,000 mirrorless camera. The X100V has proven so popular that it’s frequently out of stock at retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H Photo & Video, and shoppers should be wary of price gouging. However, because this camera is so popular, there are tons of user guides and how-to video tutorials on Youtube, and you can easily find JPEG recipes to help you captures the most amazing I-can’t-believe-these-are-unedited photos. Are there any notable downsides? Only a few. If you’re shooting 4K video, there’s no built-in image stabilization. Pro-level photographers may also find the auto settings, fixed-lens, and lack of zoom limiting. In short, the same features that make it an excellent camera for the average photographer make it somewhat limiting for professionals. Still, if you want a compact travel camera that can create stunning photographs, then try and track down the Fujifilm X100V.
