I have heard many tales of Mt Baker over the years, all of them singing praise. It held a mythical place in my imagination. Maybe it was because I once saw it from a plane, towering above everything around it, or maybe it was the legendary storms that roll off the Pacific and collide with the volcanic slopes. Either way I knew it was only a matter of time before the gravity of this place pulled me in. I wasn’t sure when or how the opportunity would arise, but I knew I would drop everything as I heard @victordaviet say ‘There’s a big storm coming at Bak...’. A mere five feet of snow in the forecast, I was sold.

We couldn’t help but join the madness, our radars on high alert searching for any pockets left uncut. Core riders would rip past us, no stickers on their boards, dicing through trees with samurai precision. These guys don’t answer to anyone, Baker is their temple.

As the lifts began to close we piled in the back of Tyler’s ute for some infamous road laps. Finishing on such a high gave me the warm and fuzzy’s. It was no easy thing to peel ourselves out of there, we were being sheltered by the old forest as the snow kept coming down. It felt like the arm, elbow, and surrounding ridges enclosed us in some sort of geological embrace. We could feel the gravity that initially pulled us there had increased in strength. I suddenly saw why so many of the characters that we met sang the same song about moving for a winter 25 years ago and never leaving.
