Tips to dive like an expert when boat diving.
1. Be sure to arrive on time so you can check in and listen to the captain's departure briefing
2. On board have a chance to look over your gear and talk to your dive guide about proper weight, mask and fins.
3. Every diver will have an assigned station numbe and it's important to keep your gear at your station.
4. When your gear is ready, head to the bow to give others room to set up their gear.
5. After the briefing, get ready to dive, but stay clear of the stern until it's your group's time to get in.
6. When the captain calls for your group, get your mask and fins and head to the stern to an open seat. On the way, you can defog your mask. Sit down and put on your fins and mask and a crew member will bring you your mask.
7. While fully geared up, take 3 full breaths from your regulator and check your guage and make sure you have a full tank. Add some air to your BCD.
8. With the help of the crew, stand up. Do a giant stride entry while holding your mask and regulator.
9. Once in the water, do a buoyancy check. Deflate your BCD and make sure you sink a few feet. If you need more weight the dive guides can assist.
10. Please wait at the surface and wait for your group to get in the water.
11. During the dive, stay behind the dive guide and stay close to him/her. They are experts at finding critters.
12. Please communicate with your dive guide when you're at a half tank, 1,000 PSI and whenever your guide asks for your pressure. In Hawaii we use 1 finger for every hundred PSI or a finger on the arm for 1,000 PSI. Alternatively, you can show your dive guide your guage.
13. When your air is low, the guide will show you where the boat is and ask you to do a 3 minute safety stop. Remain near the boat at 15 feet for 3 minutes.
14. Ascend slowly after your safety and hand your fins to the crew.
15. After getting out of your gear at your space, make room for others and head to the snack table or bow.
16. After the 2nd dive, the crew will take care of all of the rinsing. Please keep track of your stuff and make sure you don't leave anything behind and listen to the captain's debriefing.
17. If you had a great time, make sure to tip the crew!

Diving from a boat differs from diving from shore in several ways:
There is often limited space on a boat
Timing is based on other divers and the boat’s location
Your location on the boat can effect your experience
Diving from a boat means you can easily change sites at a moments notice
