Unlike its predecessor, the next-generation Defender will have a unibody construction versus a body-on-frame setup and replaces the old solid axles with a fully independent suspension. Of course, the true extent of its newfound capabilities won't be known until we can climb behind the wheel.

We've seen the 2020 Defender in both two- and four-door body styles, which indicate two different wheelbases that will affect interior passenger space. The partially disguised dashboard we spied had physical knobs and buttons for the climate controls and a shift lever mounted on the center stack rather than the center console. While the Defender will undoubtedly boast durable cabin elements, we expect it to also offer upscale materials and various luxury features. The digital gauge cluster and longitudinal touchscreen showcase the Defender's contemporary technology, and we expect a slew of driver assists will be made available.
