Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Soloing Secrets with the legendary blues-rock wunderkind Mick Taylor. I've had a number of requests to feature this iconic fretboard genius and this lesson is long overdue - so let's dive in!
The ideas in this lesson were pulled from two legendary John Mayall's Blues Breakers albums - Crusade and Bare Wires - with both featuring a young and inspired Mick Taylor handling lead guitar duty. While I could have selected other classic music from Mick's history- including historic albums featuring him with The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Jack Bruce, and many more - I decided to stick with his output in the late 1960s with Mayall.
The music and ideas shared in this lesson include sections of songs such as 'Hartley Quits,' 'Oh Pretty Woman,' and 'Driving Sideways.' This includes aggressive/emotive string bending and vibrato techniques, a heavily-accented picking attack, melodic/rhythmic motifs, sliding 6ths, interesting compound bending ideas, not to mention blurring the line between minor and major pentatonic scales by using various hybrid scales.
Needless to say, if you're a Mick Taylor fan, a fan of British blues-rock from the late 1960s, a John Mayall fan, a player looking to add some timeless and tasty licks to their bag of tricks, or maybe you're just curious what all the fuss is about - this lesson is totally for you!
