Описание: Throughout the centuries, inside of London there was a notoriously tough prison that also became a site of execution. Newgate Prison was known for terrible conditions where each year dozens of prisoners would die from overcrowding and disease. It became a place where the condemned or those sentenced to death would wait before their executions took place, but despite being made initially in the 12th century, executions occurred elsewhere. This was until the 1700s where the site of London's gallows was moved from Tyburn where thousands of people had been killed, to Newgate Prison.

Outside the prison's walls, a huge platform stood with gallows on top of it. Thousands of people would flock to see executions of criminals which were carried out on the gallows. At one point the crowd was so large that a crush occurred killing a number of spectators. But as the call to give some dignity to the condemned happened, with executions taking place in private, a gallows was created inside of a hut in Newgate Prison. In total over 1000 people would be executed outside or in the notorious prison.
