Victoria’s most endangered mammal is the southern brush-tailed rock-wallaby 🦘
With less than 100 left in the wild, conservation of this icon species is a critical priority.
Mt Rothwell and Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve have played a pivotal role in caring for this species to such an exceptional standard, we were able to re-introduce 5 individuals into the wild this year.
Their new home is Little River Gorge in the Snowy River National Park. This is perfect habitat for southern brush-tailed rock-wallabies, who are expert rock climbers, as their name suggests.
From here, we will monitor and keep a watchful eye on the released individuals for many years to come.
This project has been a great success, thanks to the long list of project partners IndustryGovAu, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Mt Rothwell Biodiversity Interpretation Centre, cesar australia, GLaWAC, Zoos Victoria, Parks Victoria, odonata, Wildlife Unlimited.
