We stumbled upon this Pacific Gopher Snake while on a short hike to the beach in Playa Del Rey, California. It was at least 4 ft. long, and while we were both a bit startled, it had no problem finding a place in the shade for a quick video session. There's an unexplainable but beautiful connection you make when staring through the lens directly into any wildlife's eyes.

Pacific Gopher Snakes are non-venomous and are native to the western coast of the United States. They are rarely seen above 2000 feet and are usually found adjacent to farms in semi-arid brushy areas. Their diet consists of small mammals, birds and their eggs, lizards and insects and even bats! They mate in the spring and femals lay 3-24 eggs that are between 2 to 4.5 inches long. All snakes shed their skin to allow for further growth, healing and removal of attached parasites. In the wild the Pacific Gopher Snake can live up to 15 years. They have been known to live up to 33 years in captivity.
