In this talk, the speaker discusses the Hindu worldview with respect to biological sciences. The speaker explains that while the Judeo-Christian worldview sees the universe and its innumerable life forms as the signature of one external creator, the Hindu worldview sees the universe as an organically evolving and inherently creative entity. Interestingly, the organic view of nature was at the root of Charles Darwin’s theories of evolution. Similarly, the work of eminent Indian scientist Jagdish Chandra Bose was inspired by the organic view of nature. The ancient Upanishadic verse that every form of life has the same consciousness also inspired J.C.Bose in developing his scientific theories. In this sense, J.C.Bose validated, at once, both Charles Darwin and Vedanta. The speaker also illustrates how the Hindu worldview of nature has important environment consequences and how this worldview was used in the town planning of ancient Indian temple towns such as Madurai and Kanchipuram. The Hindu knowledge systems have an evolutionary dynamics which show the spirit of evolution. So, Indic frameworks can be used in many ways for biological sciences. On the whole then, the speaker explains how integrating our traditional knowledge frameworks with our biological systems will positively impact our educational systems as well as our environment.
