Join me on my Amtrak ride in Business Class from Chicago Union Station (CHI) in Chicago, IL to Port Huron Station (PTH) in Port Huron, MI on Amtrak's Blue Water route (train #364). The Blue Water route includes stops in Illinois (Chicago) and Michigan (New Buffalo, Niles, Dowagiac, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, East Lansing, Durand, Flint, Lapeer, and Port Huron). Price was approximately 4,000 Amtrak points for a last-minute ticket on a high-demand day (cash price was over $100).
The Business Class car was very spacious, with a 1-2 seating layout that was great for both solo travelers and couples/families. The seat offered plenty of legroom and had very generous recline, as well as a large fold-down tray table that's great for working or eating. There was a large window which offered great views. The Business Class car was attached to the Cafe Car, so it was easy to venture over for food and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. A free non-alcoholic beverage was included with the purchase of a Business Class ticket. Alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, and spirits, were available and sold at a price premium (one bottled beer was $7.25). The beer selection was honestly impressive, with plenty of high ABV beers that offered more "bang for your buck." There were various food items for sale including boneless wings and DiGiorno personal pizzas, but I did not partake in the food.
The ride itself was smooth. The Federal Mask Mandate was enforced, with multiple announcements being made throughout the journey. For those who smoke, one smoke break was made at the Battle Creek Amtrak Station and passengers were asked to remain directly trainside. Otherwise, PA announcements and interruptions were kept to a minimum. The Business Class car remained quiet and was a very comfortable place to be for a 6.5-hour ride across the upper midwest. It was very nice to have a single seat to myself that offered both window and aisle access, as I was able to get up and move around without bothering anyone else. Coach looked comfortable too, but for such a long journey I feel like it is worth spending extra points or money (within reason) for the extra comfort. Hopefully this video gives a better idea of what travel is like on Amtrak!
