Arab Barghouti condemns video showing Ben Gvir threatening his father Marwan Barghouti in prison

Описание: In an exclusive interview with Middle East Eye, Arab Barghouti, the son of renowned Palestinian political leader and prisoner Marwan Barghouti, says his family was shocked when they saw a video circulating online showing far-right Israeli national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir meeting with his father in prison and threatening him.

“Everyone saw that this is a relationship between an oppressed and an oppressor, and my father represents not himself, he represents all the Palestinian political prisoners who, in the last two years, have been going through some of the ugliest tactics in modern history,” says Barghouti.

The video marked Barghouti’s first public appearance in years, and has raised concerns among his family as it showed him looking aged and gaunt.

A senior figure in Fatah, the party that dominates the Palestinian Authority (PA), Barghouti has been in prison since 2004. He was targeted by Israel due to his leading role in the 2000-2005 Second Intifada and popularity among the public.
