This short documentary tells the story of Lucy and Percy Pepper and their children, an Aboriginal family from Gippsland in early twentieth century Victoria, as told by their descendants, family photographs and through official documents of the Victorian government.
This video explores the concepts of country, kinship and identity, in particular through: Percy Pepper's removal to an orphanage at a young age; Percy and Lucy Pepper's ties to Lake Tyers Aboriginal Station; the ongoing family connections of the Peppers, how their ties have been maintained and why they are of continuing importance; barriers to maintaining culture and connection with family and country experienced by Lucy and Percy Pepper and their family; notions of cultural identity; and, government policies and laws that impacted on connection to country and kinship ties.
